The North League is Vast

How far is it between the clubs now in the National League North.
The furthest south teams include Needham Market over on the east in Suffolk and Oxford City and Hereford in the west, whereas the most northerly are South Shields, Spennymoor and Darlington on the east and Southport on the west.
Needham Market is 277 miles from South Shields, 257 miles from Spennymoor just one way. Hereford is 268 miles from South Shields, South Shields to Oxford 255 miles.
So, the travelling distances for many of the clubs within the National League “North” are substantial both for the teams themselves and any fans who wish to watch them away.
Some teams have argued in the past, as with Bishops Stortford last season, that the Northern Section is too vast. However, the National League South is not much better – Chelmsford City to Truro is 333 miles and Torquay is 262 miles.
The line has to be drawn somewhere and for the likes of Needham Market coming up to the league it will result in longer journeys than that which they are used to. However, it is a good step up for such clubs and with the dream of the National League itself in the future, travelling north is good preparation.
Needham Market start their campaign at Curzon Ashton on the 10th August and from their socials are totally up for the challenge this season.
